Colours come from light. Light goes into our eyes and hits the retina(射到视网膜). On the retina, there are about 6,000,000 cone cells(视锥细胞). People have three groups of cones: S cones for blue, M cones for green, and L cones for red. When light hits the cones, they send“messages”(发送信息) to our brain. The brain then tells us what colour we see.
We can see about 10,000,000 colours this way. But all of them are between ultraviolet light(紫外线) and red light. Olo is not in this colour group, so we can't see it with just our eyes.
In the new study, scientists make olo by firing lasers(发射激光) into five people's eyes. This only makes the M cones work. The scientists say light usually hits all cones, but this is different. The study may open new doors for helping people who can't see colours well, the BBC says.
